Neighbor to Neighbor
What Can Decrease Loneliness and Increase Belonging. Did you know that knowing your neighbors is good for both your mental and your physical health? A global study found that simply knowing as few as six neighbors can significantly reduce feelings of loneliness, (which is at epidemic levels these days.) That means when we talk about reaching out to our neighbors with kindness and love, we’re not just building a stronger community, we’re also caring for our own well-being! Here are a few ways to decrease loneliness and feel more belonging:
- Emotional support – Small gestures like checking in and listening to someone; simple one‑on‑one connection builds caring and trust.
- Tangible help – Practical acts such as helping with the yard, bringing a grocery item, running errands, or helping with trash bins.
- Informational support – Sharing useful local knowledge: good places to shop, what events are happening at the high school, good doctors, or job leads.
- Belonging support – Contributing to neighborhood activities: serving, celebrating babies or birthdays, neighborhood gatherings, etc.
Even the smallest acts, like saying “hello” on a walk, decreased loneliness and increased belonging. So, keep it simple, and stay connected!

Vecino a vecino
- Apoyo emocional: pequeños gestos como comunicarse y escuchar a alguien;
